Oppression of the Qualified

Posted January 18th @ 1:18 am by Jeff Riles

For decades the woman and African Americans have struggled to have realistic, legitimate rights. The empowerment of the woman was an intriguing social movement in our nation’s history. Likewise, the end to the Dred Scott area and the birth of a “dream” has spurred a huge social shift in terms of racism. Of course, we would be ignorant to presume that these dynamics don’t exist on many different levels with various variables today, but has this radical social shift caused a new paradigm?

For example, Barack O’Bama … are people really enamored with his leadership, or by the fact that he is a national figure that is African-American. Or look at Hillary Clinton, remove her from her husband and have her run on her own, and she would be worthless to the national political scene, yet because of her husband’s political capital, oh … and she’s a woman, has contributed to her popularity.

Question: Has the social progression against discrimination and oppression of women begun to drive the political scene so much that we will examine those qualities before examining the real qualities of a leader? When does our social liberalism begin to blind reality?
