I came across this really cool article on Psychology Today about being a teenager. It makes a pretty interesting argument how especially here in the United States, we have created an unnecessary “extension” of childhood called “adolescence.”
Why is that? I mean after all, in nature - by the time most things are able to reproduce, they become adults. And this used to be true for our society as well. In the traditionally Jewish faith, you become a man at 12. In most cultures, there isn’t even a word for “adolescence.” This article expands on how history, and child labor laws have developed a whole dynamic in our culture that could be very well limiting progress and the ability of “adolescents.”
Political correctness seems to be messing a lot of things up …
