Life Transition #1 - Best Friend

Posted July 24th @ 9:17 am by Jeff Riles

My dad always called these weird times, or growing times in my life: “Life Transitions.”

This week, I’ll dedicate some of my posts to some major areas I think are changing in my life. Some may seem minute and obscure, and others might seem incredibly huge.

I feel like I’m going through a major one right now.

The person who I used to consider my “best friend,” I never see.
The person who has been my “best friend” as of late, has changed my life completely.

Why is this so crazy?

There was a point in my life that me and my “best friend” planned on going to school together. Planned on going to work together. Planned on doing huge, life changing things. All of that is in a weird sense, gone.

I suppose I should be happy that I’m fortunate enough to have such powerful, life changing relationships and I hope I quit taking advantage of those.

How do you handle this kind of Life Transition?

I agree with you. These are definitely life-changing times. I think that is really what college is about. I hope so anyway. :)

You handle them by looking at your life and figuring whether the change happened as a natural progression of life or if one or both you digressed and was therefore left behind by the one who stood firm.
If it was a natural progression, you remember the good times and you miss them, but you move on. If one of you digressed, if that person was you, you decide whether or not to become the good person you thought you’d be and haven’t become or to continue settling for the life you’ve allowed yourself to slip into.
