Life Transition #2 - The Future

Posted July 25th @ 9:22 am by Jeff Riles

Do you remember those career days back in elementary school?
Do you remember taking those absolutely retarded aptitude tests in High School?
How do you really measure what you are passionate about?

Currently I study political science at Oklahoma City University. And trust me, I love it. The next major step for someone who studies these things is law school. For so long I thought this is what I was made to do … but maybe not.

I’ve read Good To Great, and Chazown - and in both a business, and spiritual book you’ll find common threads about finding out the core - your vision -  through you passion, talents, and economic engine.

I’m passionate about people. I’m passionate about people who hurt. Every time I see a Peace Corps commercial, or a World Neighbors commercial I want to go. I want to learn a completely different, indigenous language and live outside of the United States. I want to feed those children whose belly’s explode from malnutrition. How does this fit into the “master plan.”

Some good advice I was given though - look at everything that comes your way as an opportunity, or a door that God could in fact be providing. So many people are so quick to brush off perfect opportunities because they are so focused on what they believe is their destiny.

I guess its that old adage, “Life is a journey, not a destination.”
How corny.

I don’t know your destiny, but I remember when you said God wanted you to be a pastor.

    Touch lepers.
    Befriend sinners.
    Offend Pharisees.
    Go fishing.
    Wash feet.
    Break bread.
    Go.
If you’re doing those things, you’re okay for now.
