I woke up this morning and headed to the gym, forgetting that it was in fact September 11 … Tuesday September the 11th nonetheless. And I was bombarded with the news:
As I went to the gym, the TVs were all turned on with news stations covering the memorials, as well as the issue of troop withdrawal.
After I showered and sat down at my computer, the front page of the Washington Post was about 9/11, and the issues of troop withdrawn with General Petraeus.
As I went to get my coffee before class, I picked up the NY Times, and there it was again, coverage of 9/11 and the war.
Then, as I’m not paying attention in class, but reading some blogs, I am came across probably the best thing I have seen or read on the issues of today.
Its a post by the famous marketer Seth Godin about how we can truly combat terrorism with marketing. Sounds interesting right? He examines how the FBI and the NYPD (who recently released a controversial report) practically eradicated bank robbery through marketing. Even more than that, it gives me passion about this “ideavirus.” Can ideas really help us win this war?

I don’t know, I don’t think this is gonna fly with terrorists. Hamas leverages and extends it’s power with the Palestinians by providing health care in Palestinian neighborhoods. Not by spreading an ideavirus about doing so. unfortunately for us, the ideavirus’ we spread are about the wealth and decadence of the west, the arrogance of American Christianity, and the use of force as represented by Blackwater. Until our actions change, our ideavirus’ will naturally reflect them. Oh, I also disagree on any “need” to spread them. They’re viruses. They spread themselves. Whether we like it or not.
